Trauma Therapy

Renowned trauma researcher and psychiatrist Bessel van der Kolk describes an effective trauma therapist’s role like this:

“Someone who can see you, who can notice what goes on with you, who can help you to name things, who can help you say, ‘This is what’s happening to me.’ You don’t need someone to name how screwed up you are, how you need to be fixed. You need to just notice yourself, just notice, just notice without judgment.”

I recently had a profound experience with a friend and colleague who saw into a deeply painful, shame-filled part of me. With gentle and careful words, she reflected what that part of me was feeling—its longing for connection and its belief that this need could never be met. That was it. And yet, it was powerful. I felt validated, seen, and able to return to this part of myself with compassion, offering it what it truly needed.

This is the essence of my work. I partner with clients to gently notice themselves—just as they are, without judgment. From there, I draw on my training in experiential and evidence-based modalities like Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR Therapy to guide them toward healing and transformation.
